In a significant development, Paysafe has reached a $2 million settlement to address allegations in a class action lawsuit related to a prolonged data breach spanning from 2018 to 2020. The lawsuit contended that Paysafe negligently allowed the breach, compromising sensitive information, including Social Security numbers and bank account data. Although Paysafe has not admitted wrongdoing, it agreed to the settlement.
The settlement specifically benefits individuals who received a data breach notification from Paysafe, informing them of potential compromise of their information during the period from May 2018 to October 2020. Under the terms of the agreement, eligible class members may receive up to $25,000 for out-of-pocket expenses related to the data breach, covering items such as fraud damages, identity theft expenses, and bank fees. Additionally, compensation is available for up to 10 hours of lost time at a rate of $25 per hour, along with other relevant expenses.
